Chaa Da Cup - Please!

Chaa Da Cup - Please! is a food blog created for all food lovers

(n.b - mostly chai loving lovers).

The various mixtures of ingredients and recipes complement a hearty Chaa Da Cup! - you'll probably be looking (asking) for one ;)

This is my version of home cooked Punjabi-Kenyan heartiness.

No.8 – Karaah Parshaad (Sooji Halwa)

7 different ingredients - 30min to prepare - serves 5 people

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons (full) – ghee (clarified butter).

250gms (full) – unsalted butter.

1 bowl – sooji (semolina).

1 bowl – sugar.

3 bowl – water.

3 tablespoons (full) – ground almonds.

1 pinch – food colouring (pink/orange/yellow).

Method:

Heat 250gms of butter in a saucepan with 2 tablespoons (full) of ghee (clarified butter), add 1 bowl of sooji (semolina) and let it cook until it’s golden brown and frothy.

Making Chaani (Sugar Syrup):

In a different pan add 3 bowls of water and 1 bowl of sugar, with a pinch of food colouring, until the mixture comes to a boil.

Once the chaani (sugar syrup) has come to a boil add it to the cooked sooji (semolina) and mix the ingredients together until the sooji (semolina) becomes thick, creating a halwa/ karaah parshaad.

Finally, serve the halwa in medium sized bowls adding ground almonds to each serving (as per taste), and serve it with a hot Chaa Da Cup – Please! Or serve it to individuals in small portions as offerings.
