Chaa Da Cup - Please!
Chaa Da Cup - Please! is a food blog created for all food lovers
(n.b - mostly chai loving lovers).
The various mixtures of ingredients and recipes complement a hearty Chaa Da Cup! - you'll probably be looking (asking) for one ;)
This is my version of home cooked Punjabi-Kenyan heartiness.
No.41 – Kheer and Maal Pure
6 different ingredients - 1hour to prepare - serves over 5 people
Ingredients:
500ml - water.
2 bowl - self-raising flour.
1 bowl - rice.
2 bowl - sugar.
2-3 pods - whole cardamom.
500ml - whole/semi skimmed milk.
Method:
Making the Kheer:
Soak 1 bowl of rice in water and set it aside. In a large pot add 500ml of milk, on very low heat, add 0.5 bowl's of sugar, 2 pods of opened cardamom seeds, and mix them altogether..
Once the milk comes to a boil, sieve the rice and add it to your milk. Let everything come to a boil and allow the mixture to thicken up until silky pudding like consistency, creating kheer.
Making the Maal Pure:
In a large bowl add 2 bowls of self-raising flour and 250ml of water, mix the ingredients together to make a pancake batter like consistency, creating the maal pure mixture.
Making the Chaani for the Maal Pure:
In a pot add 1 bowl of sugar and 250ml of water, allow the sugar to melt into the water creating sugar syrup - Chaani, and set aside.
On a pan, add some oil and allow it to heat up. Using a ladle, pour over 1 ladle full of the maal pura mixture and spread it around round by moving the pan from side to side, and not with the back end of the ladle.
Once one side is cooked to golden brown, flip it over and allow the other side to cook. Once both sides are golden brown, dip the maal pura into the chaani for a few seconds, allowing the maal pura to soak in as much chaani as possible, and set aside on a piece of cloth/paper towel/muslin cloth.
Finally, in a large bowl add 1 ladle full of the kheer and lay on 2-3 maal pure on top, serving this greatness with a steaming hot Chaa Da Cup - Please!
