Chaa Da Cup - Please!

Chaa Da Cup - Please! is a food blog created for all food lovers

(n.b - mostly chai loving lovers).

The various mixtures of ingredients and recipes complement a hearty Chaa Da Cup! - you'll probably be looking (asking) for one ;)

This is my version of home cooked Punjabi-Kenyan heartiness.

No.36 – Coconut Chutney

7 different ingredients - 10min to prepare - serves over 5 people

Ingredients:

100ml - milk.

250ml - plain yogurt.

1tsp (flat) - salt.

1tsp - rai (mustard seeds).

A hand full - moong (yellow) daal.

5 tbsps - desiccated coconut.

3 medium sized - green chillies (finely sliced).

Method:

Pre-soak the hand full of moong (yellow) daal in a bowl of room temperature water.

In a large bowl add 250ml of plain yogurt and 100ml of milk, and whisk the 2 together.

In a small pan, add 3 tbsp of vegetable oil, the pre-soaked moong (yellow) daal, finely sliced green chillies, 1tsp of rai and 1tsp of salt. Let all these ingredients cook for 5-7min in the oil, over low heat, allowing all the ingredients to open up and combine together, making the Thurka.

Once the Thurka is slightly brown take the pan off the heat and pour it over the yogurt mixture, whisk it all up together in the bowl. Add 5 tbsps of desiccated coconut and whisk it all together into the bowl creating a coconut chutney!

Finally, serve your chutney with some fritters, chips, toast!, pronta, roti, in wraps, anything.
