Chaa Da Cup - Please!

Chaa Da Cup - Please! is a food blog created for all food lovers

(n.b - mostly chai loving lovers).

The various mixtures of ingredients and recipes complement a hearty Chaa Da Cup! - you'll probably be looking (asking) for one ;)

This is my version of home cooked Punjabi-Kenyan heartiness.

No.20 – Soya Chunk Rolls

14 different ingredients - 1hours to prepare - serves 5 people

Ingredients:

500gms - soya chunks.

2 large - red onions (diced).

4 large - tomatoes (paste).

1 cob - sweet corn.

2 medium - carrots (diced).

2 large cloves - ginger (paste).

1 large stem - ginger (paste).

2 large - green chillies (paste).

1/2 teaspoon (flat) - jeera.

1 teaspoon (flat) - salt.

1/2 teaspoon (flat) - haldi

1 teaspoon (flat) - garam masala.

1/4 teaspoon (flat) - red chilli powder.

1/4 tablespoon (flat) - hing.

Method:

Making the Chapatis:

In a large bowl add 1 bowl of wheat flour and knead it with water, as required, until a dough is formed. Make small balls out of the dough and roll them out flat into a circle using a rolling pin. Place the chapati on a hot tava/griddle and cook it on both sides using ghee. Once both sides are crispy brown take the

Cooking the Soya Chunks:

Fill a large pot half way with water and add 500gms of soya chunks to it. Let the water boil for a good 15-20min allowing the soya chunks to soften and cook through out. Once they're soft and can pierced into with a fork take them out in a colander, pouring out all the water they were boiled in. Leave them in the colander for a while allowing them to cool off.

Making the Masala for the Soya Chunks:

In a large pan add 3 tablespoons of oil/ghee, once it's hot add 1 teaspoon (flat) of jeera and let it simmer for a minute or two. Add 2 large diced onions and let them cook until pink/golden, add 2 large cloves of garlic paste to the onions and let all the ingredients cook.

Add the shucked sweet corn and diced carrots into the pan, after a minute of two, add the paste of 4 large tomatoes, 1 medium stem of ginger and 2 large green chillies. Add 1 tablespoon (flat) of salt and garam masala, 1/2 tablespoon (flat) of haldi, 1/4 tablespoon (flat) of red chilli powder, and 1/4 tablespoon (flat) of hing.

Allow all the ingredients to cook and combine into a thick curry paste.

Once the paste is thick enough but still saucy add the soya chunks into the paste and let the chunks cook allowing the paste to soak into them.

Making the Rolls:

Take a chapati and place it on a plate, put a ladle full of soya chunk curry onto one end of the chapati and roll that end toward the other creating a roll.

Finally serve the rolls with a steaming hot Chaa Da Cup - Please!
