Chaa Da Cup - Please!

Chaa Da Cup - Please! is a food blog created for all food lovers

(n.b - mostly chai loving lovers).

The various mixtures of ingredients and recipes complement a hearty Chaa Da Cup! - you'll probably be looking (asking) for one ;)

This is my version of home cooked Punjabi-Kenyan heartiness.

No.17 – Handwa

16 different ingredients - 1.5 hours to prepare - serves 5 people

Ingredients:

1 jug - water.

1 bowl - white cabbage.

1 bowl - ground and mixed white daal and rice flour.

1 bowl - sweet corn.

1 bowl - yogurt.

1 bowl - grated carrots.

1 bowl - red onions.

1 bowl - grated potatoes.

1 tablespoon - green chilli paste.

1 tablespoon - garlic paste.

1 tablespoon - ginger paste.

1 teaspoon - salt.

1 teaspoon - red chillies.

1 teaspoon - haldi.

1 teaspoon - jeera.

1/4 teaspoon hing.

Method:

In a large bowl add a bowl of ground and mixed white daal and rice flour with a bowl of yogurt and 250ml of water. Mix all the ingredients together then let the mixture sit and swell for atleast 2 hours.

Once the wet mixture is fluffy add all the extra ingredients (all the veggies and the spices) one by one to the mixture in the large bowl. In a baking tray, line the dish with a film of oil (use slightly more if needed) and pour the mixture into the baking tray. Preheat the oven at 150 degrees for 10-15 min, place the baking tray into the oven and bring the heat down to 120 degrees.

Leave the handwa in the oven for 30 min to cook, using a sharp knife poke the middle to see if there are any soft spots that will determine whether the dish needs to stay in the oven for more time or not.

Finally serve the Handwa with a hot steaming Chaa Da Cup - Please!!

Let us know below in the comments how your Handwa turns out!
